This manual covers all features of program version
1.1 as released on HELIOS CD 015.
As our products are subject to constant development, the descriptions and instructions given in this manual may not necessarily be applied to future versions of the software. If you install Print Preview 1.1 from a CD other than CD 015 or if you install any updates, please check the respective README files on your installation CD-ROM, or on the HELIOS Web site:
http://www.helios.de.
These files on our CD-ROM should be read carefully because they communicate recent changes to the product and its installation that have not yet been included in the printed documentation. On the server, e.g., the product specific README file can be opened from the "Print Preview Installation Menu" (see figure
5 in chapter
4.3.2 The installation procedure).
For full-scale information on our network software, you may also check the "readme.txt" file and the "manuals" directory on our product CD-ROM.
This manual is also available in PDF format and can be found in the "manuals" directory on our CD-ROM. To open and read the PDF file, you have to run the Acrobat Reader software which can be installed from our CD-ROM.
A comprehensive glossary of frequently used technical terms is included in your PDF Handshake manual. There are only two expressions we want to discuss here:
- Spooler
A spooler acts as a buffer for the files that have been sent to an output device. In this documentation, "printer queue", "hold queue", or "preview queue" (depending on the type of connection) may be used as a synonym for "spooler".
- ADSC
A PostScript print job is a file that contains a PostScript language page description. The "Adobe Document Structuring Conventions" (ADSC) are meant to keep a document device independent. Using the "Document Structuring Conventions" allows PostScript language programs to communicate their document structure and printing requirements to a print spooler in a way that does not affect the PostScript language page description.
Print Preview assumes that the application you use for document creation and for printing, is able to generate ADSC-compatible comments. Some applications do not always do that - and this may induce Print Preview to apply certain defaults, or it may lead to unexpected results in the preview files. See appendix A 1: How applications co-operate with Print Preview for details.
Font and
syntax
conventions
Some font and syntax conventions are used in this manual. Their meanings and uses are explained below.
The
italics style is used for words of particular
importance.
Note: Notes give details that might be useful as additional information. They can also contain a reference to other chapters where additional information can be found.
Important: These paragraphs should be read carefully. They are supposed to help you avoid problems and save time.
