3 Installing the server application
3.1 Installing the server modules
Complete installation instructions for all HELIOS products can be found in the Base manual.
3.1.1 Access to the modules
Your "HELIOS Applications" volume contains all installable applications that are part of EtherShare, PCShare, PDF HandShake and ImageServer. The volume always contains the latest versions of the applications. If you install any HELIOS updates by means of the update installer, the contents of this volume will be updated automatically and the items in this volume can then be used to replace older copies of the applications that exist on the local hard disks of your Macintosh client computers.
The "PDF HandShake" and "HELIOS Plate Control" plug-ins contain all HELIOS features for printing, file export, and separation plate manipulation. They are meant for Acrobat or Adobe Reader version 3 or later.
Mount and open the "HELIOS Applications" volume and open "MacOS > PDF Tools > Acrobat Plug-Ins" .
When using Acrobat 3.x-5.0 clients do the following:
Copy the files "PDF HandShake" (see below for the correct version) and "HELIOS Plate Control" to the "Plug-Ins" subfolder inside your Acrobat program folder . Both plug-ins will be available after the next restart of the Acrobat or Adobe Reader application.
This folder contains 2 versions of the PDF HandShake plug-in, "PDF Handshake" and "PDF Handshake, Reader 3-4.0". Only one of them must be installed in the Acrobat "Plug-Ins" folder, depending on which version of Acrobat you are using. Both plug-in versions offer the same functionality:
For all
Adobe Reader versions
prior to 4.05, copy "PDF Handshake, Reader 3-4.0" to the Acrobat "Plug-Ins" folder.
For
all other Acrobat versions, i.e. Acrobat Exchange 3, Acrobat 4, Acrobat 4.05, and
up to Acrobat 5.0, copy "PDF Handshake" to the Acrobat "Plug-Ins" folder.
Note: Users of Acrobat 5.0 must uncheck the "Certified Plug-ins Only" checkbox located on the "Edit > Preferences > Options" tab.
The "HELIOS Plate Control" Acrobat plug-in works with all versions of Acrobat Exchange 3 and Acrobat 4 and 5.0. It does not work with Adobe Reader.
Acrobat 5.05 or 5.05 Reader
When using Acrobat 5.05 or 5.05 Reader (Mac OS 9 & Mac OS X) clients do the following:
In the "Acrobat Plug-Ins" folder in the "HELIOS Applications" volume double-click the "Acrobat 5-6 Plug-Ins.img" disk image. A drive named "Acrobat 5-6 Plug-Ins" will appear on the desktop, containing the HELIOS plug-ins "PDF HandShake.acroplugin" and "HELIOS Plate Control".
Delete the "PDF Handshake" plug-in from the Acrobat "Plug-ins" folder, if present. Then copy "PDF HandShake.acroplugin" and "HELIOS Plate Control" into the "Plug-Ins" folder (the "HELIOS Plate Control" plug-in does not run in Adobe Reader).
Acrobat 6.0 or Reader 6.0
When using Acrobat 6.0 or Adobe 6.0 Reader (Mac OS X) clients do the following:
In the "Acrobat Plug-Ins" folder in the "HELIOS Applications" volume double-click the "Acrobat 5-6 Plug-Ins.img" disk image. A drive named "Acrobat 5-6 Plug-Ins" will appear on the desktop containing the HELIOS plug-ins "PDF HandShake.acroplugin" and "HELIOS Plate Control".
Then click on the Acrobat 6.0 application bundle icon while holding down the
Ctrl key, and select the item
Show Package Contents from the menu. Open "Contents > Plug-Ins". Then copy "PDF HandShake.acroplugin" and "HELIOS Plate Control" into the "Plug-Ins" folder (the "HELIOS Plate Control" plug-in does not run in Adobe Reader).
