Mac OS X to 10.4.6 Upgrade Warning

The Apple Mac OS X client upgrade to 10.4.6 introduces several problems which have been reported by customers and reproduced by HELIOS. We strongly recommend not to upgrade to 10.4.6 until a solution for the following problems is available:
  1. Some files and folders may be locked within the 10.4.6 Finder
The 10.4.6 Finder uses the FinderInfo information to detect locked files and folders. The original behavior on Mac OS 8/9 was that the locked file content could be changed and the locked file/folder not be renamed/deleted. Somehow the OS X 10.4.6 shows a read-only icon for a locked folder and does not allow to save files and folders within this locked folder.

    Workaround:

The FinderInfo locked information can be displayed with "dt ls -l". A workaround is to unlock the locked files/folders via the following “dt” commands:
$ dt set -a-l foldername or filename

The problem occurs with Apple based AFP servers as well with HELIOS AFP servers. The workaround using the “dt tools” is only available using when HELIOS products.

  2. Photoshop crashes when saving on AFP network volumes
The problem occurs with Apple based AFP servers as well with HELIOS AFP servers. HELIOS can reproduce this problem with Photoshop 7, CS, CS2.

Update Wed 19 Apr 2006:

For the 2nd problem we released update u0541 which implements a work around for Photoshop.

Update Wed 28 Jun 2006:

Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.7 which does not longer lead to Photoshop crashes when saving files to an AFP Server.
So when Mac OS X 10.4.7 is used on the AFP Clients the afpsrv preference “Programs/afpsrv/maxcommentlen” (type int, default 127, maximum 199) can be set to 199 again.
