Subject

afpsrv enhancements, Time Machine backup support

Info

HELIOS AFP volumes can now be used as backup disk for
"Time Machine" backups from Mac OS X clients.
The updated HELIOS Admin from u0831 is required to enable
"Time Machine Backup" in the volume configuration.
If a HELIOS volume is mounted and "Time Machine Backup" is
enabled, "Time Machine" on the Mac OS X client detects it as
a backup device. Backups on the server are created as bundles
containing HFS disk images. "Time Machine" remembers the
user name/password and automatically creates a hidden AFP
connection when the backup schedule is active.
New preferences:
- Volumes/<volume path>/TMBackup (boolean, default=false):
Enable Time Machine backups on the volume.
- Programs/afpsrv/allowfpsync (boolean, default=false):
Synchronize files to the file system when requested by
Time Machine. The default is false, because we consider
server volumes as stable storage and synchronizing many
times per second slows down the overall server performance.
Also fixed:
- Better shortname support for filenames containing the "#"
character.
- New support to detect the volume case sensitivity for Mac
clients.
- Avoid duplicate desktop file entries if the data file has no
write permission.
- On server shutdown we inform clients that they should not
reconnect.
- Directories with a zero file id will receive an id if write
access is given. This solves third party solution
compatibility problems.
- Unpacking ZIP archives with Spotlight comments on a server
volume works now
