April 2003
We have tested the newly released Red Hat 9 Linux distribution using our latest 4th generation products. Initial testing shows that all our products are installing and working fine on Red Hat Linux 9.

Debian 3.0 successfully tested with HELIOS CD018 products
Debian 3.0 has been tested with the HELIOS products as of CD018.
Note: To make the HELIOS software start automatically when booting the Debian system, execute the following commands as “root”:
# cd /etc
# cp 'cat HELIOSInstallPath'/etc/rc.helios init.d/HELIOS
# for i in 0 1 6 ; do ln -s ../init.d/HELIOS
rc$i.d/K10HELIOS ; done
# for i in 2 3 4 5 ; do ln -s ../init.d/HELIOS
rc$i.d/S90HELIOS ; done

Redhat 8.0 successfully tested with HELIOS CD018 products
Redhat 8.0 has been tested with the HELIOS products as of CD018. It showed no problems.

Redhat 7.3 successfully tested with HELIOS CD018 products
Redhat 7.3 has been tested with the HELIOS products as of CD018. It showed no problems.

Redhat 7.1 is available with the 2.4 Linux kernel
The first Linux 2.4 kernel based distribution is shipping from RedHat. Initial tests are showing that all current products are fully working on top of RedHat 7.1 Linux after a symbolic link has been created.
Before installing any products from the HELIOS products CD, run the following command as root to fix a missing library version:
# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s libncurses.so.5.2 libncurses.so.4
Our experience shows that the new RedHat Linux 7.1 performs great and supports more different hardware configurations.

IBM Linux Server XSeries 135 tested
We have successfully tested the IBM Linux Pentium hardware including the bundled Linux OS which is a Turbo Linux based system using a 2.2.14 kernel. It was required to install / copy the missing "portmapper" daemon from another Linux distribution to use our products. IBM has added a Web server with the ability to manage all major server configurations remotely using a Web browser.
We have tested the system with a single CPU. The second CPU was not installed. Please note that for SMP operation a 2.2.18 or newer kernel is required to work without problems using the HELIOS products.
We have successfully installed the new RedHat 7.1 which is based on the new 2.4 kernel and supports the built-in dual 10/100 network interfaces. Our experience shows that it is better to use a newer Linux, e.g. RedHat 7.1 for this hardware which offers better performance, SMP stability, and it works with our products without additional tuning.
