Java on Mac OS X 10.7

Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion” does not include a pre-installed Java runtime. Since Java is required for some client applications (HELIOS Admin, HELIOS ICC Tagger, and HELIOS WebShare Manager) and for the “WebShare WO Server” product, it must be installed separately.

The Java installation is started automatically by starting any Java application, e.g. HELIOS Admin. If Java it not yet installed, the following dialog is shown:

To open “HELIOS Admin”, you need a Java runtime.
Would you like to install one now?

Click Install to download and install Java from Apple.

If you wish to install the “WebShare WO Server” product on a Mac OS X 10.7 machine, the Java runtime must be installed prior to starting the HELIOS services. The automatic installation does not work from a background service. To install Java, do the following tasks:

  • Open Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences.
  • If Java is not yet installed, the following dialog is shown:
    To open “Java Preferences”, you need a Java runtime.
    Would you like to install one now?
  • Click Install and accept the license agreement.
    The Java runtime is downloaded and installed.
