The HELIOS file servers EtherShare, PCShare and WebShare all use Unicode UTF-8 characters for file and directory names. So there will be no problem with using special characters when working cross-platform.
However, there are 2 exceptions:
You should not use a dot (“.”) or a space (“ ”) character at a name’s end. This is not a HELIOS problem, – all HELIOS file servers can perfectly handle such file names – but Windows does not allow these characters at the end of a file or folder name.
Do never use the caret (“^”) or the pipe (“|”) character anywhere in a file name. These characters would lead to severe problems in cross-platform file sharing.
