resampling of images with many alpha channels was slow

The resampling of raster images with many alpha channels was
way too slow. Resampling means downsampling and upsampling
of raster images and is essential for layout generation.
Also fixed:
- Processing of JPEG data sometimes yielded the warning:
"CORRUPT JPEG DATA: ... extraneous bytes before marker ..."
