Office 2016 (Mac): Save file issue with wrong permissions

We received a customer report which states that saving files, e.g. from Microsoft Word 2016 to an EtherShare volume, failed.
The file was not saved properly and several directories where created. For example, when the file “Sample.docx” was saved it created a directory “Sample.docx.sb-1ebfacb1-q3IoM7”.

We investigated this issue and found out that Word tried to create a “.TemporaryItems” folder in the volume root, which was not allowed due to permission restrictions.

In case of such an issue the permissions need to be adjusted so that a client can access/create “.TemporaryItems” on volume root.
