HELIOS G8 on Debian 12 Linux

HELIOS G8 supports Debian 12 Linux. All HELIOS G8 server solutions have been tested and are fully supported on Debian 12 Linux.

The optional Debian 12 Linux package “rsyslog” (system messages syslog support) must be installed via:

# apt install -y rsyslog

This allows that HELIOS services and tools, e.g. “HELIOS Admin” and “psyslog”, can display system messages. Debian 12 uses “journald” for messages and allows messages to be displayed via the “journalctl” command. The “rsyslog” packages ensure that messages also become accessible via the syslog system.

Please make sure that all HELIOS G8 updates are installed.

We will update this Tech Info in case we have additional notes for Debian 12 environments.

Notes on the HELIOS VSA 3

The VSA 3 is a turnkey virtual server appliance. It offers a pre-installed HELIOS G8 release with a tiny Linux runtime based on Debian 10. Due to the VSA 3 custom volume management with automatic snapshots and its management software, the VSA 3 will remain using Debian 10. This is no problem because only HELIOS services are being supported with the VSA. There are no Linux services supported with network access (except “ssh”). HELIOS G8 and its updates are fully supported on the VSA 3.
