HELIOS solutions extend the network and workflows to Mac, Windows, and web users, so that working remotely can be as easy as working in the corporate office. Even remote page layout production benefits from special HELIOS support. Using any web browser, remote InDesign and QuarkXPress users can now drag and drop images, text, and other content from the HELIOS WebShare interface directly into their page layout documents. The content can be synchronized so that changes at one locale are updated at the other.
This frees creatives from the LAN tether, and makes worldwide collaboration with ad agencies, designers, and customers an anytime, anywhere, possibility.
How does it work? Remote users can view content in WebShare, and drag and drop it straight from the WebShare interface into an InDesign or QuarkXPress document, or into a job folder on the desktop. The WebShare Manager and related program extensions handle the download and update of the high-resolution images behind the scenes. The actual high-res originals are transferred (not the JPEG browser images). Simultaneously, very low-res proxy images are transferred as well, so that image placement can proceed even as the high-res images continue downloading in the background. Once each original image is received, it replaces the proxy. Formatting of text is preserved, and XML style sheets can be applied as well. This procedure allows designers to work in their preferred manner even when working remotely.
While one user is designing a document, another might be retouching the images at an entirely different site. Real time synchronization of the content ensures that all parties are working with the same versions. HELIOS WebShare Manager can be configured to automatically synchronize all dragged and dropped layout assets for a production document. As soon as a file is modified on the central server, it will be downloaded by the remote WebShare Manager. The synchronization of locally modified files with the main server is also possible.
Multi-page document previews can also be saved to the WebShare server, so that collaborators can view project status from anywhere using just a web browser. When the document is completed, it can be saved to the WebShare server. There is no need to transfer the images, as they are already on the server. This saves time and simplifies production.
Of course, OPI drag and drop placement of low-res proxy images is supported, saving additional resources, and protecting digital assets. Users can upload the native document file or an exported PDF to the WebShare server. WebShare Manager is fully compatible with OPI image replacement and content repurposing for both PostScript and PDF-native OPI.
Remote document production for any user, not just designers, can benefit from WebShare Manager. Files can be dragged and dropped into a local project folder, and WebShare Manager can sync any changes back to the server, providing automatic off-site backup.
Using HELIOS WebShare Manager for data distribution and synchronization will reduce project related communications, save time, increase productivity, and enhance user satisfaction. It provides a competitive advantage by enabling secure remote collaboration in desktop publishing (and more).
